A picture of a dogs back side or not showing their face and side view will show you nothing about the dog or the way they look. 

 You want to see the eyes in the photos you are looking at. Most of the time you can tell by the eyes if they are happy. If looking at a shih tzu mom make sure you look and see is she has a big under bite. Shih tzu's can have an under bite and that is part of the AKC standard, but you don't want a big under bite.,
