Puppy Mills

What is a puppy mill?

As a professional HOME breeder my opinion of a puppy mill is ANY BREEDER that dose not give their adults and puppies top quality care and love. Any breeder that over breeds their dogs, there are many breeders that will breed their mom dogs that are 8,9 or 10 years old. In my opinion that is very wrong. There are also breeders that breeds their moms every 6 months with out giving them a rest.

example:

If there is a breeder that breeds in their home or has a kennel and they have 2 females and 1 male but they breed both your females every heat cycle from the time they are 6-8 months until they are to old to breed they are a puppy mill. Because they don't have their dogs best interest in mind.. They are only thinking about the money they can make.

When you are producing an innocent loving creature it is your responsibility to make sure it had the BEST of care and is taken care of from the time they are born until they are no longer on this earth. Even if they are placed/sold/adopted outside your home with some one else.

It dose not matter if you have 1 dog or 500

(I would say any one that had 500 dogs would most likely be a puppy mill no one person could take care of that many dogs correctly. It would take at least 400 people to care for that many dogs correctly).

I have personally seen a so called home breeder that I would call a puppy mill. Weather it is a kennel or home breeder that is not a way to tell if they are a puppy mill. There are 1000's of puppy mills out there every where across America. The only way to stop them is buy from a ethical breeder that, offers a great health warranty, contact past puppy parents and make sure they are breeding for QUALITY and it they do genetic testing that would be great also. To be honest I personally think only about 25% of breeders do the genetic testing that they should.

I have been asked is some one owns a kennel dose that make them a puppy mill. I would say NO just because some one has a kennel dose not make them them a puppy mill. You need to find out how many breeds they breed, how many dogs they have and what type of care the parents and puppies receive
